The Mineral Wells Ram Baseball team advanced in the playoffs for the first time in 9 years with a 2 game sweep over San Angelo Lake View High School this past weekend.
The Rams took game one 2-1 behind strong pitching from Holden Hering. Holden racked up 12 Ks while allowing just a single run; also recording a complete game.
Lake View had the early lead with an RBI single in the 2nd inning.
Mineral Wells responded in the 4th with an RBI sac fly to push the Rams ahead 2-1.
The defense would prove strong to finish out the game.
Curry Crouch led the team in hits going 2-3.
The team recorded 5 stolen bases and 0 Errors on the day.
In game 2, the bats came alive for the Rams in a dominant 8-2 win to claim the Bi-District championship over Lake View.
The Rams picked up the scoring the 3rd inning with Hayes Hering recording an RBI double, followed by RBI singles from Hollifield, McWhorter, and Petrie.
William Hollifield was the starting pitcher for game 2, recording 0 ER on 4 IP with 4Ks.
As a team, the Rams let up the scoreboard with 14 hits.
William Hollifield and Holden Hering both recorded 3 hits on the game, with Petrie also adding 2 of his own.
The Rams also took 4 more bases on steals in game 2, upping their weekend total to 9 SBs.
The Rams will play Springtown at Graham High School at 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 8th.
